Job Summary:

Electrical Engineering:As an electrical system owner oversee owner's plants’ and customer projects' power distribution systems and electrical equipment. Perform power system studies. Prepare electrical designs documents and review designs produced by external electrical consultants. Ensure that electrical designs conform to ERCO and relevant standards. Develop, maintain, and revise ERCO electrical engineering standards and safety training to ensure that plant electrical personnel are knowledgeable on latest codes and standards.

Project Engineering:Develop and participate in design support with concepts and detailed engineering for electrical projects of  High Voltage, Medium Voltage, and Low Voltage power distribution systems involving substation transformers, rectifier transformers, high power rectifiers, DC-power distribution, surge arrestors, RC snubbers, switchgears, interrupting switches, power generating systems, motor control centers (MCCs), motor controllers, cables and cable systems, UPS, DC battery system and chargers, grounding grid, lightning protection, and relay and protective devices. Perform supervision of construction and commissioning activities. Prepare cost estimates and schedules. Prepare technical specifications and scope documents for contractors and consultants. Produce progress reports. Specify and manage installation and service of substations, transformers, switchgears, MCCs, etc. Ensure that project specific design issues are addressed on a timely manner. Liaise with engineering personnel on electrical issues and with external consultants providing electrical engineering services.

Field Commissioning:Lead electrical commissioning and provide immediate resolution to accommodate unexpected design issues. Provides Electrical installation support. Troubleshoot electrical equipment malfunctions or reconfigure power systems to accommodate actual process conditions or unexpected design issues. Supervision of complete electrical system function check prior to chemical commissioning.

Customer Interface:Liaise with Engineering Consultants and External Customers to reach agreements on all electrical details including vendor and standards to ensure consistency in the design. Provides electrical support for operating plants, leading problem-solving electrical issues.

Supplier Interface:Keep updated with new developments and maintain knowledge of vendors in the marketplace to assist with qualifying suppliers for use by company.

Plant Support:Provide Electrical Engineering support and troubleshooting advice to operating plants related to electrical issues on 24x7 basis. Identify electrical equipment deficiencies and make recommendations on repairs/replacement as part of Management of Change including permission to energize after an electrical event. Understands and supports decisions involving major power contracts and the equipment and systems to manage power factor, load factor, coincident peak avoidance and operation of price responsive loads. Travel to site as required to support major electrical outages & repairs. This is to ensure that plants have a high uptime with no major electrical equipment downtime and ensure that equipment is replaced proactively before failure

General Administration:Participate and assist in preparing budget estimates for new projects, training, reading related industry materials, meetings, etc. Participation in and support to departments outside of Engineering. Reports, provides update and assistance to department manager in all assigned project activities, administrative tasks.

 

Key Attributes & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science, B.Eng undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Specialty) or related discipline is required
  • 6-10 years of experience in chemical or associated industries
  • In depth knowledge and experience of Electrical Power Systems (HV/MV/LV), Power transmission and distribution design, installation, commissioning & maintenance.
  • Experience in high power D.C. rectifiers, substation design, grounding, protection and control.
  • Proficient in EasyPower, ETAP, and/or SKM, Computer skills (excluding CADD)                                  
  • Professional Engineering License or Master Industrial Electrician is strongly preferred                                                                                            
  • Valid driver’s license and passport for travel to US & CAN

 

Salary Range: 85-100K + Bonus
