About This Role:

Veranex has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager of Mechanical Engineering. You will be part of a team working to improve lives globally through medical technology innovation. The Manager of Mechanical Engineering leads activities through all phases of the medical product development process, and provides management, leadership, and independent review of work completed by mechanical engineers.

What You Will Do:

  • Leads activities through all phases of the medical product development process.
  • Acts as independent reviewer at key points in programs including technical reviews, phase reviews and risk management reviews. Advises on potential corrective action.
  • Provides management and leadership to mechanical engineering team, including coordinating program allocations and priorities, training, performance management, professional development, and coaching. Organizes mechanical engineering staff to accomplish goals efficiently.
  • Achieves staff results by communicating job expectations; planning monitoring and appraising job results; coaching and counseling employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards
  • Ensures adherence to established development policies and procedures, targeting reproducible and high-quality output by participating in the overall program and development process.
  • Ensures compliance with medical device regulations and standards
  • Directs and leads internal resources and manages external development partners.
  • Manages and develops the team to ensure performance meets and/or exceeds business and personal goals and objectives
  • Provides leadership, training, guidance, and support to mechanical engineering staff.
  • Monitors team performance and reports on metrics.
  • Participates in business development activities by reviewing proposal content and attending sales calls.
  • May function as mechanical engineering lead on product development programs.
  • Provides input into functional strategy across sites.
  • Executes functional strategy within their team.
  • Reports on metrics that measure the impact of functional group on the larger organization and uses the metrics to guide decision making
  • Works with peers to identify and execute on improvements to capabilities within their functional area.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6-8 years of work experience including 2 years of experience in a leadership capacity, or a combination of education, training, and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with medical devices
  • Good knowledge of product development process
  • Good knowledge of Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Quality System Regulation (QSR) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) regulations
  • Good knowledge of company people management policies and procedures, including hiring, performance management, corrective action, and compensation administration
  • Good people management and mentoring skills including coaching, interviewing, and providing feedback and recognition.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent mechanical product development skills
  • Strong ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to manage team resources to ensure attainment of departmental objectives

 

Preferred:

  • Consulting experience strongly preferred.
