Albright College is seeking a part-time Auxiliary Public Safety Officer for the Public Safety Department. This person is responsible for carrying out a variety of Public Safety duties to ensure that the College property is secure, safe from threat of fire, theft, violence, or other occurrences which could interfere with efficient campus operations. This individual will provide additional manpower during special events, activities and shuttle Training and uniforms will be provided. Valid driver’s license and high school diploma required. Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain patrols on foot and by motor vehicle of the campus with particular attention to: conditions dangerous to persons; fire or conditions with potential for fire; condition of operating equipment including that used for heating and cooling; security of buildings and rooms not currently in use; enforcement of College regulations both inside and outside campus buildings, including residence halls. Assist residence hall staff when requested with investigation of incidents that violate college regulations.
  2. Assume responsibility for operations in the area affected in case of fire, bomb threats, catastrophe, and has authority to evacuate buildings, etc. Notify the Director of Public Safety or designee if these events occur.
  3. Cooperate with the residence hall staff in handling emergency calls.
  4. Provide special services required at times of large group gatherings (athletic contests, conference programs, and other events) such as traffic direction and security in appropriate buildings and other areas.
  5. Provide shuttle service of students, staff as needed to college related activities.
  6. Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Prerequisites:

  1. COMMUNICATION
    1. Strong and effective written and oral communication skills
  2. SKILLS
    1. Ability to work irregular work hours as needs of the college dictate
    2. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
    3. Ability to research and understand the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    4. Ability to stand, and or walk for several hours of the shift
    5. Ability to run at short or moderate intervals as needs dictate
    6. Ability to drive all college vehicles including cars, vans and trucks, standard and automatic
    7. Ability to assist in lifting a person in time of emergency
    8. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    9. Team player
    10. Strong organizational skills
    11. High level of confidentiality

  3. EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
    1. Experience preferred
  4. EDUCATION
    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  5. LICENSES
    1. Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license upon hire date and be subject to an annual criminal record and driving record check.
